Sandra’s Story

When The Wilf Ward Family Trust asked for a customer who would like to help induct a new IT employee: Chris, Sandra was more than happy to volunteer.

The plan was for Chris to spend the day with Sandra and her support worker Ann to help Chris understand how we support our customers on a daily basis and understand the values we as a Trust promote.

Sandra talked about Chris after their happy day together and continues to do so.

Sandra also went to see Prince Charles when he visited Hull City of Culture 2017 in the same week as she supported Chris on their day out.

Sandra was very keen to write the story below and spend 4 hours typing the story on the computer for the very first time: letter by letter with support of her support worker

This is Sandra’s story in her own words by her own hand:

My name is Sandra Taylor I live at Beechwood in Brough. In June this year I will have been living in my flat for three years. I enjoy living close to my friends. I am very independent I do all my own cleaning and washing. I have support to help me manage my money, cooking and shopping. Since moving into my flat I bought all new furniture to include wardrobes and bed with a sparkle headboard. I have learnt how to use a calculator and count my medication each morning. Today I am using a computer for the first time.

I have two one to one days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Tuesday 7th February Chris from the IT department in Beverley joined me for my one to one. We went to Sainsbury’s in Hessle Chris took some photographs of me shopping and I took one of him holding a valentine teddy bear. On Wednesday 8th February I went into Hull to see Prince Charles and Camila, Prince Charles shook my hand, it was a very special week for me.
