Myself and Ryan – from Alder House – embarked on a very interesting day out! It was an Annual Exhibition run by Allied Mobility. Ryan drove me to a place I’ve never been before: a place called Shildon between York and Darlington. In fact, it was located within the railway station.

We both set off from Alder House on the 4th of September of this year. We arrived at Shildon for 1pm or so. However, along the way, there was just a slight drizzle but that didn’t put us off going. When we arrived, Ryan took me outside where all Wheelchair Access Cars were located. We had a look at various cars that were on show, there were quite a lot of new ones that were out the market, so to speak. I have to say though that they were all very interesting to look at and view. We saw some that had three passenger seats in the back of the cars themselves – as well as having “mod-cons” like sat-navs and USB ports to plug your mobile phone in and all that.

After that, we went into a big building. We had a look around where all the wheelchairs were and where the wheelchair scooters were on sale. There were quite a few stalls to look round and there were quite a few people in wheelchairs asking various questions about what was on offer.  We both had a look at various wheelchairs and – I must say – manual chairs have improved a hell of a lot. You can buy chairs to practically suit your needs nowadays! I have to say that the power chairs were something else! When you talk about adaptability, I mean just that. The power chairs were all in different shapes and sizes to say the least. Every chair you could have adapted to suit the needs of every individual.

You can buy power chairs that can perform various functions. I had a look at a few that was on display. A good example is this: if you press a button, both the foot-rest can go up to increase leg elevation. Also, reclining seats can go up and down to suit your posture – all at the touch of one button! Not only that, they also have digital display and a USB port for your mobile phone, other adaptions can be made as well; the list is endless.

All in all, it was a good day out!
