Dean’s Story

Dean moved into one of our Residential Care Homes in 2013 having lived with his parents for all of his life. His character and sense of humour have been a welcome addition to the house. Dean has an apartment within the scheme which he has personalised to his own taste; an example of this is the London bus patterned wallpaper in his lounge, which he chose to depict his love of buses. Dean often goes for bus rides around Yorkshire and is a regular on the local mini-bus that goes around Filey. He is well known by the bus driver and passengers alike. Dean goes for a tour of Filey before being dropped off at his door step, which he is always happy about!

Dean helps to clean his apartment, does his own washing, Hoovers, dusts and washes and dries crockery after meals, all of which all help to maintain his independence.

Dean accesses a variety of activities daily, from swimming, indoor bowling, visits to Betton Farm, meals out, picnics, visiting arcades, cycling, Boccia, snooker halls, garden centres, visits to museums, horse racing; the list is endless! Dean is always happy to try any new activity as and when the opportunity arises.

Working in a person-centred way and offering Dean empowerment, ensures that his choices and wishes are adhered to, enabling him to lead a fulfilling life.

Dean was shortlisted for service user of the year last year and attended the awards ceremony to collect his certificate. It’s now hung up in his apartment and he shows it off proudly to his visitors.
