The dictionary definition of an ‘active citizen’ is: A person who is interested in and involved in social and political issues and activities in their country or community. Active citizenship involves citizens having control over their daily lives as users of public services, allowing them to influence decisions, voice concerns, and engage with service provision.

It may be of no surprise that this definition applies to all the individuals we support, as we do our utmost to provide support that enables them to live their best lives, follow their big dreams, and accomplish goals that mean something to them.

That’s why making a donation to the band Ultimate Thunder was an absolute must for our organisation to support the band in their journey to success.

Ultimate Thunder have been going since 2013. They have received donations and grants from various sources including local charity Pyramid, and the Arts Council, to enable them to continue to record and perform. When further grants dried up however, they launched a crowdfunder to assist them to continue following their dream. News of the crowdfunder reached Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, who publicly supported the campaign, along with Leeds based band, Yard Act. This led to a greater outpouring of support, and Ultimate Thunder playing their biggest gig yet at Millennium Square in Leeds last Summer.

Ultimate Thunder have created a unique and raw signature sound – they have been compared to the likes of Hawkwind and The Fall and even described as ‘the most punk-rock band in Britain’. They even released a Christmas single at the end of 2024 titled ‘It’s Not Christmas Yet’.

Percussionist John Densley lives in one of our services in Leeds and is supported by the Trust. Our organisation have made a generous donation to the band’s record label, Easy Listening Records – this will empower the band to continue to write, play and record their groundbreaking music. An essential move, given that music is John’s passion in life.
