Chelsea enjoys watching CBeebies on TV, especially the Teletubbies, by making happy vocalisations and body movements. Chelsea also seems to be fascinated by loud noises and sensory aspects. Because of this, her Support Workers thought she would likely enjoy a day out at Alton Towers.

Prior to visiting, staff contacted the park to ensure Chelsea’s disability and mobility needs would be met, and made a clear plan and checklist for the day to ensure that it would run smoothly. Chelsea had the best day out, she was smiling and laughing throughout the day! She was keen to go on the accessible rides, and engaged in a live show performed by the Teletubbies. This was her favourite part of the day, she immediately recognised the theme tune to the show and was happily rocking in her wheelchair!

Chelsea interacted brilliantly, and was able to communicate her mobility needs on the rides – showing her Support Workers exactly where her feet and hands needed to go to support her best. This is something that Chelsea had not done before, and is a big step for her understanding her needs.

This story is a testament to the power of personalised support and its profound impact on well-being.
