Greg, who lives in one of our Scarborough services, is a wheelchair user and registered blind. But he now enjoys greater independence and reduced anxiety thanks to an innovative solution. Previously anxious about not knowing which staff would be supporting him, he now uses an interactive switch that records up to 80 seconds of information.
He keeps the device, affectionately called his “buzzer,” on his bedside table. With a simple press, he gets all the information he needs at his fingertips, reducing his need to ask and increasing his independence. The staff team has embraced this, adding jokes and music to the recordings, which he loves.
This story shows how accessible information can transform lives, providing new skills, greater independence, and less anxiety.
